The Skirt Suit Is Back For Autumn 2018 And We're Totally On Board

The Working Girl style staple gets an update.

While we’ve unapologetically embraced 1960s, 70s and 90s fashion trends in recent years, people seem to take 80s style with a pinch of salt. Maybe that’s because shoulder-pads are a more difficult trend to diffuse than a bum bag.

But with the millennial pink trouser suit going mainstream over the past 18 months and even the power suit now making regular appearances on our nights out, it was about time the skirt suit had its revival, too.

This neglected style staple was once synonymous with the ‘working girl’ – women who followed their careers along a path to financial independence and stability. And in 2018, when young women are becoming more brazen online and off about their beliefs, ambitions and politics, it kind of makes sense.

This autumn’s skirt suit actually has a playful 90s nod to Clueless, with co-ords that come in a checkered print. But in general, the revival of the trend has meant less boxy structures and a way to blend business and play. So work it.

The skirt suit is having a moment and this time we’re not shying away.
