With ‘The Voice’ set to make its debut on ITV next year, it seems the broadcaster is determined to distance it from ‘The X Factor’ as much as possible.
ITV are currently busy signing up coaches, and it looks like they’re hoping to bring in more credible names to differentiate itself from Simon Cowell’s talent show, and the latest star being linked with a role on the new series is singer-songwriter Tom Odell.
According to The Sun, producers are hoping that Tom’s presence on the panel will help draw in a younger audience.
A source claims: “Getting Tom Jones and will.i.am back was the first step, now they want more credible names and ratings draws. They think Tom ticks both boxes.
Tom first rose to prominence in 2013, when he was given the prestigious Critics’ Choice prize at the Brit Awards, which had previously been awarded to stars including Adele and Emeli Sandé.
He later bagged the coveted spot on the John Lewis Christmas advert, recording a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Real Love’ for the ad campaign, which featured Monty the Penguin.
It is not yet known who else will be joining ‘The Voice’ when it returns to our screens, but Paloma Faith recently announced that she won’t be back on the team, as she’s pregnant with her first child.
Some reports have claimed that bosses are keen to get Kylie Minogue back on the show, after she served as a coach for one series in 2014.
