McKinley, Chloe, Avalynn and Lauren met in exceptional circumstances - they were all at a children’s hospital being treated for cancer - and they became fast friends.
The girls, now aged between four and five, met two years ago at the St Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Florida. A photo of their time together there shows all four girls smiling in the lobby, wearing pink tutus and cute headbands on their short hair.
Three of the girls - Avalynn, Lauren and McKinley - had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, while Chloe had a rare form of lung cancer.
They took a second photo together a year later in tutus and t-shirts that displayed the words “Brave,” “Strong,” “Fearless,” and “Warrior”.
But now that all four girls’ treatment has been a success, they have returned to the hospital to take another picture together, but this time they have matching t-shirts to go with their tutus, all saying the word “survivor”.
“They were all on active treatment the first time we did this,” Avalynn’s mother Alyssa Luciano told Fox 13. “It’s amazing to see how far they’ve come from being bald little babies.”
And the girl’s friendship was a positive force for their parents, too. “Just having other mums to relate to has been phenomenal. Just to have other people going through it at the same time as us,” McKinley’s mother Karen Moore said.
