The nominees are the usual mix of must-see shows, A-list stars... and a few curveballs.

Killing Eve is the top nominee at this year’s TV Baftas, with an impressive 14 nominations.

The spy drama, created by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is up against Bodyguard, Save Me and Informer for Best Drama, while stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer will go up against one another in the Best Leading Actress category.

Behind Killing Eve on 12 nominations is A Very English Scandal, which is up for a plethora of awards including Best , as well as acting nods for both Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw.

Elsewhere, Ant and Dec are up for two awards, including one for Saturday Night Takeaway, which could well be a controversial decision, as the pair appeared on TV together only briefly last year, with Ant McPartlin taking most of 2018 out after his arrest for drink-driving.

Despite this, they did win Best Presenters at the NTAs last month, with Ant claiming he “couldn’t accept” the award as his co-host had done most of the work that year.

Britain’s Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing will go up against Saturday Night Takeaway and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show for Best Entertainment Show category, while Great British Bake Off has received its first nod since leaving the BBC in 2017, in the Features category.

This category was won by Channel 5’s Cruising With Jane McDonald in 2018, though she has missed out on a nomination this year.

Meanwhile, the TV Baftas is known for throwing out curveballs, and there are a fair few unlikely nominees this year.

They include grime star Big Narstie, whose Channel 4 talk show has been nominated for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme, Fred from First Dates (for his food show with Gordon Ramsay and Gino D’Acampo) and Bros, for their recent documentary After The Screaming Stops.
