Forecasters are warning of the coldest night of the year so far after the week started with schools closed, thousands of homes without power and dozens of flights cancelled.
The word of caution from the Met Office for Tuesday comes after a day of travel chaos caused by extremely low temperatures turning the weekend’s snowfall to ice.

While in areas of Wales daytime temperatures struggled to reach -4C, the mercury is forecast to dip as low as -15C overnight.
The weather has caused disruption to road, air and rail travel and commuters are faced more delays and cancellations on Monday night.
