The helicopter belonging to the owner of Leicester City football club, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, has crashed just outside the club’s football stadium.
It has not been officially confirmed who was on board when it crashed but there are fears that several people had been killed.
Srivaddhanaprabha was in the helicopter when it came down at about 8:30pm on Saturday, a source close to the family has told the BBC.
His daughter, two pilots and a fifth person who has not been named, were also in the helicopter, according to Sky News.
It is also not clear whether anyone on the ground was affected.
Officials from the club and Srivaddhanaprabhas company, duty-free giant King Power International, declined to comment on whether he was in the helicopter.
A Leicester City spokesman said: “The club will issue a more detailed statement once further information has been established.”
The helicopter took off from the pitch inside the stadium as it does after every home game and was in the air “for just a few seconds”, according to witnesses.
One told Sky News: “I hope they’re okay. Doesn’t seem like they have had much of a chance. Just burst into flames.”
Small bouquets of flowers were left outside the football ground by members of the public on Sunday morning.
A large image of the Hindu god Ganesh was also propped up in amidst the flowers.
A small candle was placed in front of the flowers as more people gradually gathered to pray for anybody who may have been on the helicopter.
The helicopter took off from the pitch inside the stadium as it does after every home game and was in the air for just a few seconds, according to witnesses.
John Butcher, who was near the stadium at the time of the crash, told the BBC his nephew saw the helicopter spiral out of control apparently due to a faulty rear propeller.
“Within a second it dropped like a stone to the floor...Luckily it did spiral for a little while and everybody sort of ran, sort of scattered. As far as we are aware nobody around the car park was caught up in this problem.”
The takeoff was captured on BT Sport’s post-match broadcast.
A witness told Sky News: “I hope they’re okay. Doesn’t seem like they have had much of a chance. Just burst into flames.”
Video posted to social media shows emergency services racing to the scene of flames in the carpark just outside the stadium.
Leicestershire Police have tweeted: “We are dealing with an incident in the vicinity of the King Power Stadium. Emergency services are aware and dealing.”
Leicester City played West Ham United earlier in the day where a late equaliser secured a 1-1 draw.
Vichai bought the club in 2010, and the unfancied side won the Premier League title in 2016.
One fan told Sky News the owner and his family have done so much for the club.
He said: “They have conducted themselves so well, they have put everything into us. They have made us champions. You cannot ask for more from your owners.”
Sunday’s Women’s Championship clash between Leicester and Manchester United at the King Power Stadium has been called off following the crash.
The ladies reserve league match against Derby was also postponed.
