Woolwich Stabbing: Manhunt Underway In London After Woman Repeatedly Stabbed In The Back

Police are appealing for information on Peter Morley, 35.

A manhunt is underway in south-east London after a woman was stabbed several times in the back on Monday morning.

The Metropolitan Police issued an appeal for information about 35-year-old Peter Morley after being called, along with paramedics, to Anglesea Road in Woolwich around 9.30am following reports of a stabbing.

The victim, believed to be in her 30s, was found with a “number of stab wounds to her back”.

The Met said Morley, who is known to the victim, “should not be approached by members of the public” and is wanted for questioning in “relation to this incident”.

Anyone who sees Morley or knows where he is should dial 999 immediately, the Met said.

The victim was taken by London’s Air Ambulance to a central London hospital.

The Met said it was awaiting an update on her condition but does not believe that her injuries “will be deemed life threatening”.

Detective Chief Inspector Lesley Hamilton of Greenwich Police said: “It is important that we locate Mr Morley quickly and without further incident and I urge anyone who sees him not to hesitate but to call police without delay.”

Hamilton said officers remain at the crime scene today and “additional patrols are being conducted to provide reassurance to the public while the search for Peter Morley is undertaken”.

The stabbing comes five days after a woman in her 20s suffered a gunshot wound to her abdomen in Mulgrave Road, Woolwich.

The woman was taken to hospital with injuries that police said are not life threatening.
