From marmite and gin to cheese and Prosecco, we thought we’d heard all the world had to offer in terms of unusual Easter eggs.

But now, there’s an Easter egg infused with the DNA of Bear Grylls. Yes, really.

The adventurer has provided a mouth swab of his DNA to be incorporated into a single chocolate egg. Why? We honestly couldn’t tell you.

The DNA/spit egg is just one of the weird and not so wonderful products hidden at an upcoming egg hunt as part of The Bear Grylls Adventure – an event taking place in Birmingham.

Created alongside independent chocolatier Prudence Straite of Food is Art, the other eggs are infused and encrusted with edible insects including freeze-dried crickets, Buffalo worms and mealworms, adding “a real crunch to every bite”.

Each egg will contain a secret code and the first 50 participants to crack the code will win an exclusive chocolate egg. One single Easter egg in the range has been infused with the DNA of Bear Grylls himself, taken from a mouth swab and incorporated into the chocolate blend in a lab.

Commenting on the bizarre announcement, Bear Grylls said: “The Bear Grylls Adventure experience is all about escaping the ordinary to achieve something epic and sometimes putting your survival skills to the test involves eating what’s out of the ordinary too.

“I hope that those who complete the Easter Egg Hunt and crack the code feel empowered and enjoy their tasty treat.”

We’ve heard it all now.

Those intrigued by Bear Grylls’ slobber can check out the event from 19-22 April at NEC in Birmingham.
