So, let's have a listen to this awesome lot shall we? Here are the tunes that you seriously NEED to hear...
Isaac Holman and Laurie Vincent are two mates from Kent, drawn together by their love for lo-fi garage punk. Influenced by the likes of Rancid and The Clash, it was only a matter of time until they were on a stage making a glorious ruckus of their own; but nothing could prepare the music industry for what was to come. Without a doubt, Slaves are one of the biggest things to have happened to the British punk scene for some time. With the searing aggression of their quintessentially English vocal giving both Johnny Rotten and Danny Dyer a run for their money; the "brash guitars and tribal, steering-wheel drumming" of the duo have marked them out as one of the ballsiest sounds to have emerged this summer. They've been named Zane Lowe's 'Next Hype', Arctic Monkeys and Gallows' fave new band, and they're set to take the nation by storm as their tour with Drenge kicked off this week. Any of you who saw their mindblowing set in the BBC Introducing tent at Reading will already understand what this pair are capable of... but if you haven't, have a listen to 'Nervous Energy' here. It'll knock your face off.
There's another duo ready to rock your world next, as we've got a taste of The Sea to share with you. Fresh, exhilarating and not the least bit fishy; diving in to the rich rock n' roll torrent of Cornish brothers Peter and Alex D' Chisholme is an utter treat for your ears. In fact, they have already made a huge impact on the British music scene, racking up support slots with Muse, The Kills and The Enemy- perhaps making you wonder why you ain't heard of them yet? Well, rather unfortunately, just as the pair were at the height of being lavished with attention from Kerrang, The Guardian and BBC Radio1... Alex went and broke his neck. (If it weren't such a serious thing it'd be a full-on 'D'OH!' moment.) Thankfully, he's alright now and after a long period of mending and recovery, they're back in action and ready for round two. With their influences ranging from the classic sound of The Rolling Stones to the dynamic garage rock edge of The White Stripes, they're still sure to make their mark. They manage to do it in the space of 1 minute and 52 seconds with 'Get Up, Stand Up, Die' so imagine what a full show might do to you?
As he made his third appearance on the 'Westfield Presents Emerging Icons' stage last weekend, there is surely some space to show some love for the incredible talent of Kieran Daly. The 18-year-old singer-songwriter has became a firm favourite with the Shepherd's Bush crowd, as his individual brand of indie-folk has a quality that commands the attention of anyone who hears it. With the popularity of chaps bearing acoustic guitars continuing to rise following the successes of Ben Howard and the Mumford boys, he's certainly on trend with what the public seems to dig at the moment- but can he stand apart from the rest? Of course he can. He's got a proper quirky quality to his voice adding plenty of character; reminiscent of Damien Rice or maybe a bit of a male Lucy Rose. The live music thing is still relatively new to the beguiling Twickenham-based artist, which to be honest makes the quality of his performance an even more impressive achievement. In short? We likes him a lot.
Anyone in the mood for some Norwegian indie-electro stompers? Oh, go on then. Born from a long hazy summer in 2010, synth-lovers Lemaitre provided a breath of fresh Scandinavian air to the buzzing new dance scene and it's not looked back since. With a penchant for a deep beat and glittering disco, Ketil Jansen and Ulrik Denizou Lund would go on to create massive tunes fit for any self-respecting laser-smattered dancefloor. (In fact, their live show features their own constructed light show spectacular- so that's well worth checking out when there's a date at a venue near you soon...) With the irresistible allure of their richly layered electronica, the steady pulse of the rave comes to take over your senses no matter where you are... so perhaps avoid it for your playlist the next time you go visit your Nan. Aficionados of the genre may already be fully aware of these two, as they've already racked up #1s on the iTunes Dance Chart in the US and Canada, and have the support of heavyweight producers Netsky and Madeon.
