The Power of Dressing Well

People who wear colourful clothes tend to have colourful, outgoing personalities. Black is a safe option, but does not say too much about your character. Blue gives the impression of trust and is used by a lot of business people. A scruffy outfit can be indicative of a scruffy/disorganised mind, and in the business world, you may repell clients rather than attracting them.

"They screamed when I walked in the room." That is what one of our clients said when she attended a networking event recently. The person in particular was due to give a presentation. And literally, as soon as she stepped in the room, before she had said a word, people were drawn to her because of her outfit. As a business owner, she was wearing her brand colours, as was her colleague.

As a business owner, it is good to wear your brand colours for the following reasons:

1.It creates a sense of identity

2.People start to recognise, know, like and trust your brand

3.It creates a seamlessness between you and your colleagues

4.It enables a talking point

It is good to have an ice breaker, particularly if you are entering new environments. Wearing your brand colours creates a talking point. You don't have to wear the same outfit as your colleagues, but if for example, one of your brand colours is pink, you can all wear a hint of pink - whether it be pink shoes, a pink scarf, etc. Ask them to wear your brand colours in a way that they are comfortable with.

We sometimes underestimate the power of dressing well. Sometimes we dismiss it because we don't want to be seen as being too materialistic, or the classic line that I always hear is:

"I want people to notice my personality." The truth is, your clothes are an extension of your personality. People who wear colourful clothes tend to have colourful, outgoing personalities. Black is a safe option, but does not say too much about your character. Blue gives the impression of trust and is used by a lot of business people. A scruffy outfit can be indicative of a scruffy / disorganised mind, and in the business world, you may repell clients rather than attracting them.

Most people choose to wear safe clothes choices in neutral colours. These choices are safe and lack individuality. To stand out from the crowd, wear colours to communicate creativity and confidence. For a lady, the red dress is your winning piece. For the gentleman, a blue suit paired with a white shirt and red tie can clearly get you more noticed in a busy crowd. Choose colours that suit your complexion and correspond to the type of person you are. Blue conveys trust, knowledge & authority, while red conveys extroversion, courage & confidence. The simple rule to get noticed in a crowd and turn heads is to dress appropriately for your environment while choosing a unique style that corresponds to you.

Don't be afraid to wear clothes that fit your figure. Wearing tailored clothes does not need to look trashy. There is a way to wear clothes that hug you in right way, without it feeling like a second skin. If you can't breathe in the outfit, it is probably too tight. Choose clothes that give away something, but not too much.

There is no hard and fast rule to dressing well, but do dress well. Let your clothes speak for you, and don't be afraid to dance with colour.
