Why Water Alone Is Not Enough for Athletes

Why Water Alone Is Not Enough for Athletes

I am fanatical, almost borderline obsessive about HYDRATION. I can't stress how important I think this aspect is. I for one absolutely have to maintain my rehydration levels, as if I let these drop, I really feel it.

The importance of maintaining optimal hydration levels can never be underestimated. Whether you're a professional athlete or simply a part time fitness fanatic, staying hydrated is one of the most important things you can do for both your sporting performance and overall health.

And although we often associate staying hydrated with drinking lots of water, H2O alone is not always the most effective way to rehydrate when sweat output is high. The science is pretty simple. When we sweat, we don't just lose water - we lose electrolytes, too.

What are electrolytes?

The human bloodstream contains a carefully regulated concentration of ionic minerals, known as electrolytes, which carry out a number of important functions within the body.

Electrolytes found in the human bloodstream include magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium, and hydrogen phosphate. Electrolytes (notably sodium) regulate our body's hydration levels, and play an incredibly important role in muscle and nerve function. A muscle contraction needs a unique balance of electrolytes to take place; an imbalanced ratio or deficiency can lead to cramping, muscle spasms, or at the very least, fatigue.

Losing electrolytes through sweat is one of the first contributors to decreased athletic performance. If you've ever felt weak, tired, or hit a wall during exercise, chances are that if your energy stores are not the culprit then an electrolyte or fluid imbalance was at least partly to blame.

How I found the solution to my dilemma

As electrolytes are lost through sweat, it is essential to replenish them both during and after exercise to sustain your athletic performance for the longest duration possible. H2O alone will not provide you with the hydration you need at a cellular level - which is where Precision Hydration comes in.

"Andy Blow, one of the founders of Precision Hydration, was a regular podium finisher in elite short course triathlon racing but initially had very poor results racing in the heat and at longer Ironman distances, due hydration related problems and cramping. This despite religiously following the widely recognised 'off the shelf' hydration advice for athletes at the time.

Through years of trial and error, Andy eventually figured out how to effectively manage his own sodium and fluid intake levels during training and competition in order to maintain performance.

It was this search for a much more effective solution, which led to the development of the Precision Hydration concept."

How H2pro works

Precision Hydration's H2Pro Hydrate tablets dissolve in water, enriching it with the perfect balance of magnesium, calcium, potassium and sodium to help you rehydrate quickly and effectively.

Available in four different concentrations of sodium to suit your individual requirements, H2Pro is a fantastic supplement for athletes looking to sustain their level of performance and avoid the negative effects of dehydration.

H2Pro Hydrate tablets are ideal for use during sport to keep your body hydrated, and after exercise to replenish the minerals you lost through your sweat.

Many people, myself included, like to take H2Pro Hydrate first thing in the morning, to effectively get the day off to a good start by ensuring fluid and electrolyte levels are topped up.

If you're even the slightest bit dehydrated through heavy sweating, water alone many not be not the entire answer. Try H2Pro Hydrate for unrivalled results and proper hydration.
