Chasing Owls: An Emerging Icons Band Set to Follow Mumford's Country Path To Success

The sound of the Edinburgh-based group will surely sate that seemingly unquenchable thirst for all things warm, rich and sing-along.

Last month we saw the unstoppable force of Mumford & Sons match a Beatles record of having six entries in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Charts at one time- and the manic lust for countrified guitar twanging still lingers. One thing we can assume is that whilst the world is so smitten with wholesome folk loveliness, it's a perfect time to be a band like Chasing Owls.

The sound of the Edinburgh-based group will surely sate that seemingly unquenchable thirst for all things warm, rich and sing-along. If their performances at the Olympic Park this summer are anything to go by, their reputation for a live show will see them emanating the successes of that wily Marcus Mumford and those so-called offspring of his. Have a look for yourself with this exclusive Emerging Icons music video for this stunning tune:

'Lady of Whiteness' is every inch a hit lying in wait. With its epically catchy hooks and monumental chorus glittering amongst the deft knack for storytelling, it will be a highlight for many when it appears on 'Emerging Icons In The Park'.

Universal's Simon Li said of the band: 'Chasing Owls just exude the swagger of a band who know what they want and know they are well on their way to achieving it. Hooks, feel, grit and a decent dose of character in the voices that should mean they rise above most others in this crowded genre.' We have to say that we are rather inclined to agree.

We spoke to Chasing Owls' relentlessly charming frontman, Ben Sunderland about the tale behind the track- just so you can keep it in mind when you find yourself screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs.

- What was the inspiration behind the track/what the song is about?

'Lady of Whiteness' is a song written from a sort of imagined retrospect, in that it's a song where I imagine what my wife to be like, hence the imagery of a white, or 'pure' lady. As a result, when I wrote it I found myself drawing a lot of parallels between my imagined wife and the role that angels play within art- a lot of these featured in the writing.

- Where and when did you write this song?

This is one of our oldest songs, I wrote it while I was still at uni in a bedroom somewhere. I forget exactly where. I do remember it wrote itself really quickly though- was pretty much all there in under half an hour. One of the very few that are so compliant!

- Who recorded the track for you- if a producer who else have they worked with?

We cut it with a friend of ours called Dave Lynch at his studios in Lewes, Sussex- they're in an old converted flint barn, amazing place. He's worked with a heap of amazing guys Iain Archer, Dave Ford, Lowly Knights and worked with the Toploader guys in the early days.

- How do fans react to the track when you play it live?

It's very fan-interactive, the big 'boo!' moments are always made a fuss of.

- What comes to mind when you hear the song played back?

So many things really but depends on what the context is. Sometimes you might just think of what happened the last time we played it or some studio memory. The keys part is the most memorable for me.

-What does your song bring to the Emerging Icons album?

I don't think it's so much about what any one song brings to an album, surely an album is about what a body of songs achieve together?- it's in that understanding that we play our part.
