What is your best all time fashion moment?

Back in 2001 when I was starting my company our hats were on the advertising campaign for Barneys NY. Seeing this image on a huge bill board in US was a completely surreal experience.

What inspires you?

Everything around me! My inner antenna is somehow up all the time, whether it's something I see or hear or somewhere I've travelled and experienced, I'm always alert to new things.

What is your first fashion memory?

Seeing my mother dressed to kill. I have many nostalgic memories of seeing her looking so glamorous in her fur coat and beautiful hats.

Person you would most like to collaborate with?

Chanel or Balenciaga would be a dream. Designing a hat for Madonna would be pretty great too.

If you weren't a designer, what would you do?

I love cooking, so perhaps a chef, although there's probably more to it than eating!

Who is your style icon?

It has to be Audrey Hepburn.

What is the best piece of fashion advice you've ever been given?

I was so into the punk movement in the 80's, so being told how to walk like a lady was a real awakening.

When you aren't designing, what do you like do?

Surfing is my biggest hobby but if there is no swell, I am happiest pottering in my garden or cooking for friends.

Name three things you can't live without.

Good laughs, great waves and music.

Fashion should be more...

About making people feel confident and happy.
