Five Break Up Quotes To Get You Through A Relationship Breakdown

Five Break Up Quotes To Get You Through A Relationship Breakdown

When I was going through my divorce and breakups I always used quotes to get me through; they were like mantras for me that I used when I found myself thinking about how terrible life was or how bad I felt. By using a quote (a.k.a a mantra) it broke with my usual thought patterns and helped me get through the darkest moments.

Below are some of the ones that got me through in the hope that they can help you too.

1) "Time is only a healer if you use the time to heal." Marina Pearson

Time is a healer only works if you work the time to heal. It may seem pretty obvious but I am often surprised when I meet women who years later are still struggling to get over their ex as they have not used this time effectively. Instead, they have muddled through somehow and its only when they stop and are asked whether they are truly over their ex that they realize that they are not. This quote reminds me to carry on doing the work, when I get my buttons pushed and helps me honor myself and my triggers. One way you can heal is by doing a course or seeing an expert in the field.

2) "You don't die from a broken heart, you only wish you did." Anon

I love this quote as there is a very cool distinction here between what is not physically possible but what our minds make of the situation. Wishing that we could die of a broken heart is what creates the pain. The thoughts behind this thought must be ones of sadness or hurt, otherwise why would you wish yourself to die in the first place? This quote is also a great reminder that you cannot physically die of a broken heart, which is really good news! If you cannot die from it, it must mean that it will make you STRONGER!

3) "If you are going through hell keep going" Winston Churchill

This was a mantra that I used throughout my divorce. This quote reminded me of what people during the second world war must have had to have gone through and it kept reminding me that if people could endure war, then enduring the end of a relationship shouldn't be all that difficult in comparison. In addition, knowing that it was Winston Churchill who said it, takes the emotion out of the quote and it gives me the push I need to keep going and not give up.

4) "Maybe part of loving is learning to let go" The Wonder Years

I believe that some relationships are here for a season and not a lifetime. We will all have to go through the process of letting go, that is just part of life. One thing is for certain life is in a constant state of change and nothing ever stays the same forever. Letting go, is the same as surrendering and accepting your situation as it is. Wanting your situation to be any different will make things worse. Like with anything in life the more we practice something the better we get at it, so practice the art of letting go and know that it comes hand in hand with loving someone. Take a deep breathe and say "I let go of everything that is creating the struggle and choose to move on instead."

5) "Once you let go of the past, your future will present itself." Marina Pearson

I use this one to remind myself that you will not be able to see new opportunities if you are still looking in the past. I like this quote as it excites me to think that I will be making way for something new and better in my life if I decide to. When you make energetic space and heal the hurt you feel, it is then you can. The universe abhors a vacuum. In other words, you will need to make the energetic room for something new or someone new to show up. If you are still holding onto the hurt and anger, inviting an inspiring future is made more difficult. Imagine what bigger and better situations and people are waiting for you on the other side of the pain and let this be your inspiration.
