Band Aid 30

Much as I relish the creativity of many of their efforts, I feel that this trend tells a worrying story both about the faltering attempts of business to redefine its place in the world and about our own need to grasp at almost anything to create meaning in our lives. In my book, we could do with rather more powerful stories at Christmas time. Any ideas?

Anything that raises money for charity is great, and I am fully behind sending relief money to help the Ebola crisis that is happening in West Africa. Nevertheless, like many others, aspects of the new Band Aid 30 single make me feel uncomfortable with regards to its portrayal of West Africa and West Africans.
Here's a wild thought: Could Bob Geldof turn out to become one of Africa's worst enemies despite his original masterstroke of giving a platform to ageing rockers, publicity-hungry pop stars and dubious has-been singers to help promote their all-conquering charitable efforts?
