childcare cost

For nearly 30 years now, governments in the UK have been helping families to pay for childcare. There are two very good reasons for this: many pieces of research show the educational and social benefits for children who attend high quality nurseries and it supports parents with very young children back into work.
The Government has costed the doubling of free childcare from 15 hours to 30 hours a week for three- and four-year-olds at £350 million a year. Meanwhile, experts within the sector suggest the real costs to Childcare providers at more like at £1.5billion a year- so who's right?
The average hourly rate received by nurseries is £3.80 per child per hour, though this varies between local authority areas. That doesn't cover the cost of providing the high-quality care that's expected of them - and it hasn't done for years.
