Tottenham lost three nil at Chelsea but was it really that bad? They had 61 per cent of the possession and almost as many shots as Chelsea and they were definitely the better side for the first quarter of an hour. And yet, somehow, Spurs were never really in it...
There have certainly been huge improvements in Lamela and there are more than just glimmers of the talent that originally won him a big-money move to England but Tottenham more than ever at the moment are in need of a player capable of changing games on his own.
Pochettino has said that introducing new tactics, training methods and the like doesn't take long but that changing mentality is a much lengthier process. The measure of a good manager is whether he can make his a team add up to more than the sum of its parts.
It's not as easy as it looks. Oh, and it was far better than this old gem. There wasn't the slightest bit of need to be this
Ángel di María scored one and assisted another three as Argentina spoiled Germany's homecoming in a re-match of the World
No strangers to false dawns, the Spurs faithful filed out of the Lane to a murmured chorus of 'let's not get carried away'... Every football fan knows that the best route to a derby victory is the one that inflicts the most dismay and humiliation on the opposition... only thing that we can be reasonably certain of right now is that Pochettino's preferred eleven, when it settles down in the autumn, will bear little resemblance to Saturday's line up.
He is Tottenham's club-record signing, but his first season at White Hart Lane didn't go to plan for himself or the club... he's yet to get off the mark goalscoring wise in competitive action, he certainly has a point to prove - not only to the fans but maybe even to himself as next season fast approaches.
Nobody is talking about Tottenham as title contenders. You might argue that no one ever does but in recent years they've been considered pre-season dark horses at least... Tottenham have a squad rich in quality and depth and they're adding to it with a bit more care and precision than they did last summer.
