When I started my research of Eastern European fashion industry over three years ago Ukrainian fashion week wasn't 'a thing' but international fashion media were travelling to Moscow and reporting from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia every season. The alternative 'Eastern vibe' was just starting then.
Why do we care so much about the show, not the clothes? Why are we mad about the big four cities? Why do we follow the brands, not the designers and their teams? Why are we scared to say Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy and always have to add 'Hubert' to it? Why don't we celebrate the legacy by embracing the change, by celebrating new names? Why don't we relax a little?
New Zealand Fashion Week is a rather chilled affair, it's great being FROW and catching up with some familiar faces. The shows are always a little bit quirky and very exciting so I am hoping for some more surprises this season with the Autumn/Winter collections.
