It's time for other countries to catch up with the UK with regards to supporting women's choices in childbirth. It's time for the majority of the Grand Chamber of the ECHR to catch up. Indeed five members of the Grand Chamber have already caught up.
With so much happening around the world, it truly feels there's now a global movement to support women's rights in childbirth, and that movement is fast gathering momentum. Change is happening. More people are being brought into the conversation. More people are now more aware of human rights in childbirth.
Horrific abuse in childbirth happens every day in developing nations where women and their babies are often denied access to life-saving obstetric care. In fact, we intend to focus on this in a future film.
If you gave birth recently, did you feel you had real freedom? Freedom to choose where you gave birth, who was present, what interventions took place and how you delivered your baby? Were you given access to all of the facts needed to make your choices truly informed? Who was the most powerful person in the room at the moment of birth? And did the experience leave you feeling exhilarated, disappointed, or downright traumatised?
