Gaucher Awareness Month

Early diagnosis and treatment can help those living with Gaucher disease lead a better quality of life. Children should not have to endure what I went through as a child. Those memories stay firmly in my mind, and perhaps for good reason, as this gives me incentive to strive for better understanding of Gaucher disease.
October being 'Gaucher Awareness Month', I began to ask myself some questions. Why do certain patients have mild symptoms and others suffer severely? Why do some patients recover from additional ailments quicker than others?
Having a rare disease may sound special, but believe me, it's not. Growing up isolated, I never met another Gaucher patient and had no form of support in my youth.
