The Internet is a tool that has the capacity to help art and creativity flourish and develop, yet we must be careful to utilise it properly, in order to avoid limiting it's scope for intuition and originality. Moreover, I believe that spoken word has an exciting role to play in the dissemination of information and formation of public discourse.
Another year and another Edinburgh fringe passes. Arty types have all patted each other on the back, Edinburgh businesses have all patted their wallets, and the beautiful old town can return to normal.
On Friday 12 July, something wonderful happened. It was Amanda Palmer "going for broke" in an open, naked letter to the Daily Mail. The singer-songwriter made the performance as part of her set at the Roundhouse in Camden, delighting the audience with her comedic Waltz which confronted the Daily Mail for their sexist reporting on her appearance at Glastonbury.
When we think of poetry we think of old men from hundreds of years ago miserable and confused. What we do not think of is Eminem, Obama, The Streets, Hollie McNish is breaking boundaries and showing that poetry has a place and a role in the 21st century and she is using social media to bring it to the world.
