This has been my kitchen sink for the past 10 days. The view actually belongs to an old friend, Andy, a man with a sense of humour I have always treasured. When I once got the push from a job, he gave me a clock as a leaving present. Inscribed on the back was 'tempus f*ckit'.
I was in The Burren, where dramatic karst formations of limestone stripped bare by glaciers are covered with faults and ridges. In this lunar landscape it's difficult to imagine that anything could survive. In fact it's teeming with life, nurtured by dedicated farmers and committed food producers.
St Patrick's Day is the ideal time to treat yourself to some tasty Irish cuisine, like traditional Irish breads. One of my favourite Irish breads is buttermilk soda bread which in Ireland might be better known as a soda farl. A fun way to eat them for lunch is as a pizza!
