We've all encountered women who are judgemental. I've heard friends say that 'girls are mean' and 'women are bitchy,' and talk of run-ins with other women that left them emotionally or socially devastated. This is baffling to hear. It is 2017 after all, right?
I know when I'm being judged. And it stings. The judger only sees a snapshot of my parenting or my kids, or an interaction that is missing context. I am parenting 24/7 with 4 little ones running circles around me, all of them at different stages in their development with different demands, challenges, and different temperaments. I encounter many judge-worthy situations. Some smaller; some bigger. And I pick my battles wisely. Because you gotta.
If you have ever judged someone dismissively, thought they were not worth bothering with, only to have them become an extremely good friend once you got to know them properly, then you will understand the hazards of the judgement cycle. An experience like that may lead you to question your natural tendency to believe your first impressions.
I think we have all had this dilemma. Who do we stay friends with after a couple divorces or separates? Hopefully you can stay friends with both parties, but that can be difficult as we are often dealing with human emotions and judgemental attitudes.
I don't know about you but I make judgements every single day. I judge whether to cross the road or not, whether our baby has had enough to eat, how many raw chocolate bars I need to make for my family because I ate the stash I made last night already... I could reel off a long list!
