Local Food

This Christmas, I am urging everyone to try to have a 'local' Christmas. Is it possible to find all of the presents, food, drink and decorations you will need from producers and craftsmen in the local area? I imagine it is and you could be surprised about what exists just around the corner.
To us gastronauts, Finland is not yet on the culinary map, but Turku has come up with an innovative way of sampling some of its top restaurants.
'Doing good'. It sounds like yet another thing to think about and weave into one' s special day. But it doesn't have to be. One of life's most simple pleasures is a shared meal with those we love. Food is glue in that it acts as a social cohesive agent. On your wedding day, food is promoted to far more than basic fuel and becomes a signature of the event itself.
I grow a few acres of asparagus on my farm in Kent and this year I have looked on helplessly as the asparagus first sulked underground in the rain and cold, refusing to grow at all and then shot up faster than we could pick it as soon as the sun came out. With this small taste of the unpredictability of farming life, my respect for our farm shop partners grows and grows.
Guilting children into finishing their dinner with "there are starving families in Africa" might be a well intended and sometimes successful parenting tip, but how much more effective if we could start guilting adults and corporations with the same line.

While on my annual vacation to visit friends all over the US, but mainly Indianapolis it started like this, a long day of eating drinking, and a live music show in Louisville Kentucky left me happy, but exhausted asleep in the back of my friends car on the drive back to Indianapolis.
Tony, the chef at Todmorden High School, has had a long weekend. On Saturday he was cheerfully dishing up casseroles to around
