Nature vs nurture

I am determined not to allow myself to be limited by my fear of interacting with people. Whether I was born with an inclination towards social anxiety or whether I happened to develop it, I'm desperate to overcome it.
We all know business and politics are dominated by men. In a rather pathetic indictment of the situation, there are more Eton graduates than women in the Cabinet. But why are we resorting to quotas to address the problem? What happened to skills and talent?
Sexual orientation is, I think, a complex thing and not reducible to the facile and outdated categories of nature or nurture. Likewise, rights can be complex. But the case here is simple, whether that way by chance or choice, gays and lesbians deserve the right to marry. Granting that right in the UK is a good choice, let's make it now.
Nature, nurture, choice, whatever. The world seems obsessed with what makes the gays gay. The hot potato of how homosexuals came to be is passed around from soapbox to soapbox until it becomes decidedly mashed, becoming kind of difficult to tell it was ever a potato to begin with.
