This is a proud week for Greenwich Theatre, a week in which we celebrate theatre for its ability to confront, to challenge and to inspire - and this is not unusual for us here...
In September this year we are set to open a new studio theatre at Greenwich Theatre, and for the opening production we have chosen to develop Cassiah Joski-Jethi's Under My Thumb, a play first written as a 30 minute short piece and shortlisted for this year's inaugural RED Women's Theatre Awards.
Before seeing any performance, I quite like the idea of not knowing a great deal about the story or production beforehand
Depression bubbling under the surface, or hovering above, never seen by any, only felt by me. I was used to it. Familiar. At times I would think, "I need to sort this out" and alcohol would come along, "remember our agreement? I can take care of this for you." And it did.
The central character in Punch is the most heinous, twisted, barbarous person I have ever tried writing. He's impervious to any shred of empathy, tact or compassion and yet I agree with (almost) everything he says.
There is nothing better tool in the fight to understand ourselves than theatre, and with the new season at the Royal Court will be at the forefront of innovative and exciting theatre which will get London talking.
