From every attempt to extinguish this solidarity an even bigger flame seemingly erupts, evoking the words of Rozalla that everybody has a right to be free to feel good. Now let us start educating and spreading respect for that freedom before more lives are lost.
"You're a gay-loving prick". The final words of a man who - so poisoned by hatred - continued to utter such bile as he was taken, handcuffed, to a police car. My partner and I had spent the previous twenty minutes trying to tackle his backward views but also keep him in place until the police arrived.
When I'm choosing which desk to sit at in our small newsroom office in Los Angeles, I position myself so I can see the door. We now carefully ensure it is always locked and everyone has to buzz for secure entry - even though we are situated behind metal gates in a quiet street near a beach in near paradise. We hot-seat so always sit somewhere different - and so each and every time I check to see where the exits are and plan my exit from that particular work station.
I certainly don't know, but it's becoming abundantly clear that a free-for-all majority rule is no longer certain to keep us on course, and is rapidly becoming an exercise in trial-and-error with dire consequences.
On June 12th 2016 the USA suffered its worst mass shooting in modern history. Orlando suffered the loss of many young people. The world suffered from yet another terrorist attack. And the LGBT+ community suffered yet another reminder that we are still living in a world that won't accept us.
You're a criminal and a coward, and your crime has shocked the world to its core. But we refuse to break in the face of what you have done. The people who died because of you will be honoured as we stand together for justice.
As we come to terms with the tragic loss of life and continue to express our solidarity and support with the victims of the Orlando shooting in the face of mindless homophobia and terrorism, these discriminatory rules are being brought into question and scrutinised under the public spotlight now more than ever before, as we ask ourselves: what is the real reason why a monogamous gay man cannot give blood while a heterosexual man with an indeterminate number of sexual partners would be welcome to donate?
When this is all over, Mr. Drumpf, I look forward to watching you return to primetime TV with your tail in between your legs, a world where we could all laugh at you without having to worry about what insanity will come out of your mouth next.
