Grant is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”. Grant was brought to tears last week when he got a response to a fan letter he sent to Barbara Streisand when he was a boy in the seventies.

Comedian Kevin Hart has chosen to step down as Oscars host after being given an ultimatum by the Academy: keep the gig but apologise for homophobic tweets he posted over seven years ago. Hart refused, explaining his choice in an Instagram post.

The category was met with criticism from fans and the film industry.
