Despite the government's miseducation, we are fortunate enough to live in an age where information is available wherever we are on the planet, at the touch of a button. We are hearing about the dangers of increased sugar consumption everywhere, so why are people choosing to give refined sugar to their children, especially when there are so many alternatives? There really is no excuse anymore to be shovelling this rubbish into our children.
But hold on a second. What if I do need it?? What if by believing for so long that I am a coper and that I can 'just deal with' having a child who hasn't slept for 15 months, I've exhausted myself even more?
I don't disagree with my husband that there probably is within us a subconscious, animalistic desire to procreate. I think there is much more to it than that, and only after having a baby myself and going through that first tumultuous year of parenthood can I understand the real driving force behind why we choose to have children.
Online parenting spaces are amazingly useful when your baby wakes up with a terrifying looking rash at 4am. We were told that he had a hole in his heart which was dangerously close to a valve and that there was a chance the hole would close as he grew, but that we should come in for scans every 3 months.
I have two amazing, bright, funny, gorgeous boys,. One is eight and the other is six. Over the years they've said some weird and hilarious things - as I'm sure all kids do. Not being on social media yet, they won't have noticed that I've been documenting all of these conversations...
Are all children compulsive liars? I'm waiting to find out. I know Anna is. I've had a few years to find that out. Iris' language is obviously only just starting to come out so it's hard to tell yet. She looks like a liar. Well she looks just like her sister so her reputation is already tarnished by association.
I don't tend to get much advice from my grandfather these days. However I did get some from him recently. Which is odd. And not just because he died in 1999. It was odd because the advice was about caring for a baby. This is not a task with which I associate him.
