Pesticides

Global warming isn't the fictional bogey man many once thought it to be and its effects go way beyond marooning polar bears on melting icebergs. The methane (noisily) produced by livestock is 20 times more deleterious as a greenhouse gas than C02, which makes meat production the second most damaging source of greenhouse gases in the world.
Organic isn't better for you. Eating organic food won't stop imaginary 'toxins' from bypassing your liver and making you sick. Buying organic can potentially cause greater harm to the environment. Eating local is no guarantee of reducing your carbon footprint.
But don't for a minute assume that 'organic' says anything about whether the food you're about to eat is healthy. Organic crisps are still dangerously high in fat and salt. Organic lemon cookies still contain a glut of sugar.
The contents of my wardrobe don't change much - you're more likely to find Narnia in there than this season's print or cut of jeans. When I do go clothes shopping, the way the fabric has been produced doesn't influence whether I'll take it home or not.
Since the 1960s we have known that pesticides when used without care and attention will cause insect pest outbreaks. But we never seem to learn.
