They should be chosen with great care and love, and by people who have taken the time to plan their arrival and ensure that they are truly offering the very best home possible to a much deserving and wonderful new family member.

It's never been easier to buy a puppy. The puppy farming industry is huge. In the past, many people bought from pet shops, or local ads, and that still happens, but nowadays, there are thousands of online sites listing millions of puppies for sale around the world, offering a smorgasbord of misery. The scale is mind boggling and hideous if, like me, you loathe the way our relationship with dogs has been infected by a consumerist, disposable way of life.
Christmas is now officially just around the corner. As we roll through into December it's important to remind people of the troubles of giving animals as gifts. Every year people give animals, typically kittens and puppies, as gifts to their loved ones...
A couple of weeks ago I saw a six year old Shih Tzu cross Jack Russell Terrier. He was a lovely healthy chap and as a puppy had cost his owners £50 from a local rescue. During the consult we discussed how now his litter would be marketed as 'pure-bred' Jack-S**ts' & sold for at least £300!
