Police have arrested one man, but are still searching for two others believed to be involved.
Scotland Yard’s latest figures show 1,290 arrests have been made so far.
The infant died earlier this month and the cause of death was a head injury.
One local resident said: “They tried their best for an hour but when they couldn’t save him I saw one of them crying.”
The Guardian columnist was out celebrating his birthday with friends when the incident occurred.
The six-year-old victim suffered serious injuries, including a broken back and brain trauma.
Detectives believe the victim knew her attacker but no arrests have yet been made.
