Smoking

There have been two US deaths and more than 200 cases of severe lung illnesses linked to vaping and e-cigarettes.
But alcohol and nicotine will stop you getting shut-eye, a new study suggests.
The NHS has said that “obesity is the new smoking” after research from Cancer Research UK highlighted that obesity has overtaken smoking as the cause for some cancers. The causes of obesity are multiple and complex. Environmental factors like fast-food advertising, the availability of cheap, calorie-dense food and larger portions have all contributed to growing obesity rates around the world.
Obesity now causes more cases of some cancers than smoking
There has been a massive drop in the overall smoking rate in the UK and the EU, but it continues to remain one of the biggest health risks in the region. There were 489,300 estimated hospital admissions attributable to smoking in the UK alone in 2017-18, an increase of 11% since 2007. But there has been a massive drop in the overall smoking rate to 14.4% in 2018 from 19.8% in 2011.
"Smokers can stop smoking. People who are overweight or obese can’t suddenly be non-obese."
"When we look at the evidence we do have, there’s enough grounds for serious concerns."
But it's still better for your health than smoking, experts agree.
