It's hard to believe snares are still legal in the UK. The League Against Cruel Sports have been campaigning for the banning
Investigate. Educate. Protect. That's the motto of the League Against Cruel Sports. When it comes to animal welfare and wildlife
Therese Coffey said during the debate that Britain has the highest animal welfare standards in the world. When it comes to snares, that's utter nonsense - we're practically alone in Europe when it comes to allowing their use. I believe that it's time for the Government to back up those words with action. It's time for a ban on snares.
The sheer terror of choking to death is something we can all imagine, but hopefully none of us will ever experience. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for many of the 1.7m wild and domestic animals that fall victim to a silent killer in the countryside each year.
At the League Against Cruel Sports, our key focus means that we know a lot about what goes on in the world of animal 'sport', much of it unsavoury, much of it hidden. Our own election manifesto therefore focuses on five issues that are key to reducing the suffering of animals, and we believe that many voters will share our concerns.
This week, we called on MPs from all parties to ban snares outright. Britain is one of only five countries left in the EU where snares are completely legal, and frankly it shames us all. Snares are indiscriminate, inhumane, and unnecessary. Banning them is a no-brainer.
