stay at home mothers

I know I am lucky that my husband has a job where this is financially viable for us to do. I know I am luckier still that I am out in Dubai as a stay at home mum, where it is the "normal" to stay at home so both myself, and the toddler, have a great social network.
So, where does that leave a mother who wishes to stay at home and raise her family? Between a party who loathes them, a party who patronises them and a party who ignores them.
On the bad days we feel like we're where we're supposed to be; secure in the knowledge that we're the only one that can deal with the calamity caused by a broken biscuit. Those evil hours give us the chance to do mothering the verb and not just be passive, nouny old Mum.
Have you ever heard someone say that they want to be 'just' a mum or a dad when they are an adult? If they have, I wonder what the reaction was? We are always expected to have another role. Mothers are now expected to go to work, have a career, and play a role financially even if a partner supports them.
They don't blatantly say women should stay at home. Well they do, or to be precise they did, but since it was all too obvious, the public reaction forced them to become craftier at their messages. And, rather scientifically, as in whaling, the politicians turned toward actions and away from words.
