It was an absolutely splendid evening and it was great to see such talent displayed on the stage from the performers to the new writers, and of course the work of Sondheim. If this competition is a sign of what we have to look forward to in the future of the West End, we are in very safe hands indeed.
This Disney epic was shot on a relatively modest budget ($50m); a Sondheim adaptation clearly more risky than their pending version of Cinderella. Sometimes less really is more, and as we all know, you don't need to spend a fortune to make a great movie.
Wow, wow, wow! Assassins at Menier Chocolate Factory is absolutely stunning. With music and lyrics from Stephen Sondheim and a book from John Weidman, this is such a dark, riveting revival of a musical about those few who've tried to assassinate the President of the United States.
Between learning French lyrics (Piaf) and attending premiere of a French novel (Les Mis) I managed to get coveted tickets to see Stephen Sondheim's 'Merrily We Roll Along' at one of my favourite theatres in London, The Menier Chocolate Factory.
