syria conference

Civil society organisations, both regional and Syrian, need to be empowered and strengthened to respond to the vast needs. They are on the front lines responding to the crisis and will be there long after Syria fades from the headlines. The world must act now for Syria.
I believe the London Conference can be a turning point for the Syrian people who have endured so many horrors since war engulfed their country. One conference can't end the fighting or undo the suffering but it can be the moment when we rise to an unprecedented challenge with an unprecedented response. In London I want the world to offer a different story on Syria and a new vision of hope to its people. This is an historic opportunity and the whole world must grasp it.
Above all, amidst discussions on the Syrian crisis David Cameron must not lose sight of Britain's own proud tradition of protecting refugees. Indeed it was British lawyers who helped draft the Refugee Convention - which has saved millions of lives. Now is the time for us to live up to it.
