Standing at the edge of a crater the size of an American football field that is leaking flaming gas, my old nemesis of vertigo was making himself known. Or was it just the smell of the methane fumes? I was standing alone at the edge of the Darvaza Gas Crater, central Turkmenistan, which is also known as the 'Door to Hell' - a very fitting accolade.

I am sad, very sad. For the last few days I have been haunted by the news of the man who pulled up outside the Jewish museum in Brussels, and shot and killed two visitors and a member of staff. There are photographs on the internet of him firing through the door.
He is unsettling his fellow world-leaders so much that they are scrabbling to form an economic and military alliance to protect themselves from him. His behavior across central Europe is violent and unpredictable and he has made repeated attempts to shut off key supplies to his opponents.
Mention to someone that you have just been on a cruise and they might look at you with a mixture of contempt, horror, disbelief and disgust. That is of course, if they have never tried cruising themselves.
I fell in love with Western Australia not once, but twice. The first time I was in a little coastal town called Kalbarri.
