Remember When You Were An Insane Lovesick Teenager?

I'm about to tell you something very embarrassing but I'm only telling you on the basis you've probably done something similarly desperate before. When I was 15, struggling with my sexuality and obsessed with the Sugababes, I fell head over heels with a girl.

Dua Lipa is the brand new mega babe on the pop scene and if you haven't been lucky enough to cross paths with her yet, here's a poem. *Clears throat*.

  • In 1995 she was born and raised
  • In London was where she spent most of her days
  • Uploading videos to her YouTube
  • Aguilera, Pink was what she listened to
  • When she found herself moving to Kosovo
  • She started covering Nelly Furtardo
  • It got her noticed by Warner Label
  • She moved back to London and worked as a model
  • Her first single came out in 2015
  • As they say the rest is history
  • Dua Lipa has just released her debut album and you know that pathetic, intense, exhausting but exhilarating love you felt as a teenager? It takes you right back there.

I'm about to tell you something very embarrassing but I'm only telling you on the basis you've probably done something similarly desperate before. When I was 15, struggling with my sexuality and obsessed with the Sugababes, I fell head over heels with a girl. She worked in Topshop and every Saturday my wonderful friends would come with me into town whilst I paced up and down at the entrance to try and catch a glimpse of her. Such good, enduring friends. 'Dreams' is the song that takes me back there.

  • 'In my dreams
  • You'd say you want me, my body
  • In my dreams
  • You'd say you need me, believe me
  • In my dreams
  • You'd say you love me, say you'll never leave my dreams
  • In my dreams'
  • Each song on this album takes me back to a different stage of that relationship. From the awkward flirty phone calls to the moment we stopped talking and cut all ties, it's all covered. Even the time I spent several hours writing 3mm high love hearts around her name on a piece of A4 paper. Haha...what a fucking waste of time. She was important to me because she was the first person who enabled me to express my sexuality and she also was the person who showed me 'Two Girls One Cup'. Such a confusing mix of emotions. You must have people in your life like this, that make you realise how far you have come as a person. When the wound has healed, you trace the scar with your finger tips and feel strength in your survival, you can smile at what was even though it was such an intense infatuation at the time.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk to Dua Lipa about the album and we talked a bit about politics, the book she's reading and her career so far. One of the highlights includes a collaboration with Chris Martin who Dua couldn't seem to believe that she'd had the opportunity to work with so early on in her career. She's already collaborated with Miguel (who once accidentally kicked a fan in the head, I'll never not find that excruciatingly funny), Sean Paul (daily struggle) and Martin Garrix. She's also good mates with some of the most intensely loved members of the pop world; Troye Sivan, Niall Horan, Harry Styles. This is an album for people who love pop music, emotion and intense infatuation. Oh and you'll probably want to have sex at some point whilst listening to it.
