So you maybe a natural at sharing your mug on instagram and twitter every five minutes but here is a handy guide to mastering the art of the perfect selfie...

You need to put that pout away. Let us be frank girls, there is no one who finds the duck face look attractive so flash a lovely smile or a cheeky grin instead. Anything but those silly pouts.

Use good lighting. Photographers everywhere will tell you that the number one secret to a great photograph is good lighting. Now we know you're not going to be able to get a full studio of lights on the go for a simple self portrait but think about soft sunlight or a cloudy sky to really make you look amazing.

Use an app. Just so you know that this isn't cheating. We're not suggesting you go photoshop crazy but just using an app that can fiddle with the lighting, maybe clear up any temporary blemishes you may have can work wonders.

Stay natural. Unless you usually walk about with a full face of make up then don't use it. Just relax, take a deep breath, smile and be your beautiful self.

Think about the angle. Straight on is never a good look. If you want to turn prison mugshot in to sex goddess then tilt your camera at a 45 degree angle.

Have some fun. Have a laugh, taking a selfie isn't a serious portrayal of you so enjoy it. The fact you're having a bit of fun whilst you're doing it will shine through on the pictures!
