Nobody Said It Was Easy...

The last couple of weeks have been a real eye opener for me. In business and life in general you can never say that you know it all. I remember a quote my father used to use against during a naive argument during my early teenage years.

The last couple of weeks have been a real eye opener for me. In business and life in general you can never say that you know it all. I remember a quote my father used to use against during a naive argument during my early teenage years.

"Employ teenagers whilst they still know it all" - Bill Gates.

Setting up a company that is designed to disrupt the way our competitors do business can create a lot of hostility and friction. I am extremely for; competition, collaboration, rivalry and a free market. The last couple of weeks have reaffirmed in my mind how anti I am to unethical business practices.

Don't fall into the trap I have in the past by believing that everyone who shows an interest in you is on your side. I am a stickler for details; attention to the small things and perfecting areas that need perfecting. This mentality is useful most of the time, however can promote it's own problems.

I urge anyone who's planning to build big or small businesses, or is even thinking of doing so, to surround yourself with people who you can trust. Trust is the greatest power that you can give someone. I personally only give my 100% trust into very few people. One thing you can't earn back easily with me is trust. I would recommend that you adopt this policy in everyone outside the comfort of your own home and even then you have to tread carefully at times.

In order to gain others trust you have to getting going. There is a fundamental difference between ideas and reality. The business world deals with 95% fact and 5% bull. The general rule for everyone to remember is that in the business world a fact is only really going to be a 'fact' for around 90 days. In order for people to begin to be won over by you, you need to promote who you are. DON'T FAKE IT! They'll be enough success in your life to shout about.

These following quotes are the ones that I will always remember. They are my grounding, my reality and stability that what I'm doing is going to change things for the better. They promote who I am and help win people to my cause. I would suggest you remember these and find you're own.

Always have a quote bank!

Here's mine:

"Transparency's clarity" -

"DO or DO NOT. There is no try" - YODA

"Seek first to understand. Then to be understood" - Mother Teresa

"What you do speaks so loud that I can't hear what you're saying" - Unknown

"It doesn't matter what side of the fence you get off! It's the getting off that counts" - Jim Rohn.

"You need to go on a journey to the centre of your ambition and dive into the depths of your imagination. What you'll find there will be amazing. What you'll find is yourself." - Alan Alda

"Opportunity is missed by most people because it comes dressed in overalls and looks like hard work" - Thomas Edison

"Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same" - Barack Obama

"Be a first rate version of yourself NOT a second rate version of somebody else" - CS. Lewis.

"On their deathbed nobody has ever wished that they had spent more time in the office" - Steven Covey

"The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, often do!" - Steve Jobs

"Business is about getting from A to B on the shortest possible route, in the quickest amount of time with the least amount of casualties" - I, Rob Nunn, said that to the Sunday Times in 2012.

"Life is 10% of what happens and 90% of how you respond to it" - Unknown

"You mind is a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds. You can grown flowers... or you can grow weeds." - Unknown

" The tree that never had to fight for sun and sky and air and light but stood out in the open plain and always got it's share of rain, never became a forest king but lived and dies a scrubby thing... Good timber does not grow with ease, the stronger the wind, the stronger the trees" - Douglas Malloch

" An old Cherokee told his grandson:

'My son there's a battle between two wolves inside us all...

One wolf is EVIL. Full of anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, lies and ego.

The other wolf is GOOD. Full of love, joy, peace, humility, kindness and truth'

The boy turns to his grandfather: " Grandfather, which wolf wins?'

The old man replies: ' The one you feed " - A Native Tale.

"I'm not here for the battle. I'm here for the war" - Phillip Woodgate

No matter what comes your way always remember this last quote which was highlighted to me by my friend Kay Phillips a few days ago.

"A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him".

Go out and achieve what you are destined to achieve. Don't let anyone get in the way; don't let them knock your confidence and if you stop remember who's won. Some will call you crazy; others will call you a hero.

As long as you have fun then it's worth continuing!

May your future be bright and prosperous.

Best Wishes,

Rob Nunn.
