How To Avoid The Rain At This Weekend's Isle Of Wight Festival

This weekend for me sees the start of the British festival season - three months of mayhem is round the corner as I spend every possible weekend coming up in a field, soaked through to the bone, praying for sun. I'll be lucky.

Do something different this weekend. Volunteer to help the homeless. Write a song about a loved one. Learn how to do the Gangnam Style dance properly. Take a flight to see an old friend. Anything - as long as it's fun.

This weekend for me sees the start of the British festival season - three months of mayhem is round the corner as I spend every possible weekend coming up in a field, soaked through to the bone, praying for sun. I'll be lucky.

The opening party for my annual summer of musical chaos is always the Isle of Wight festival, and it's a pleasure to see them think outside of the box this year by inviting down one of the finest institutions in Heavenly Records to host Channel Carling.

As a long-time fan of their venue The Social, located just off Great Portland Street in that London, I'm hearing rumours that the saving grace from the UK's ever-so-temperamental weather will be courtesy of a collaborations between The Heavenly Social and Carling.

The two brands - one best known as the nation's favourite beer and the other a legendary record label stroke music venue (that also does superb grub) is putting on an entertainment extravaganza - a modern take on traditional British pub and bar entertainment.

If you are heading down to the festival this weekend then stop by the Channel Carling and enjoy a refreshing pint whilst getting involved with all the action, from Hip Hop Karaoke to music quizzes and well known DJs from the Heavenly Jukebox. The Charlatans front man Tim Burgess is even making a special guest appearance to play a DJ set on Saturday night.

Hip Hop Karaoke will be taking the tent by storm all weekend, encouraging festival goers to show off their rap skills in front of a crowd. Whilst legendary music quiz Sounds Familiar will be putting punters through their paces over a series of challenging and hilarious quiz rounds.

If that wasn't enough, the Carling tent will be rocking into the early hours thanks to a bill of well-known DJs including the 'Madchester' indie sounds of the Baggy Mondays and 'hair metal' from Ultimate Power, who will be keeping the party going after the Stone Roses and Bon Jovi have finished playing the main stage.

Hopefully the sun will shine and festival goers will be able to follow all the action on the big screen outside the tent, so you can soak up the sun and still tune in.
