Sculpting It Alone

Body sculpting, has fascinated me for a long time - and that was way before Jodie Marsh popped up on our screens looking all honed and toned. And now with Olympic fever gripping the entire nation, I know I'm not alone in being jaw-droppingly fascinated by the scores of athletic bodies adorning our TV screens.

But all these athletes and body builders have the money, time and support behind them to sculpt their bodies into perfection.

What I want to find out is how us mere mortals can achieve the same look without the around the clock help from trainers and bucket loads of determination and self-motivation.

So my first step was to find a trainer (I have chosen not to mention him for reasons which will become apparent) and I was really inspired by one I met during a press trip who gave me a very encouraging speech of how I would be able to achieve that look with his help.

What I needed, he said, was to be committed to the goal and follow a strict eating and exercise programme.

He even gave me a date I needed to start and a time limit of ten weeks. With this enthusiasm, I decided to post my body building goal all over Twitter and facebook so that the whole world and dog knew what I was about to embark on.

So after the initial assessment of being weighed, measured, snapped in my underwear with bits hanging out - for which I had to travel a 200 mile round trip for - I was told I was to start eating clean from this point onwards. Eating clean means eating no processed food, no alcohol, no wheat or gluten. So a basic diet of meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds and good fats.

As my trainer lived so far from me, I was told that my exercise programme would be emailed to me or in person when I would meet him during a visit to London.

Being a determined person by nature, I was committed to the goal with immediate effect and began to eat clean with immediate effect whilst eagerly awaiting for my exercise programme to come through.

So you can imagine my disappointment, when almost two weeks into my goal, I still hadn't received my programme and my trainer had cancelled two appointments to meet me.

What a great start eh? I felt let down beyond belief. I bet that doesn't happen to celebrities!

But not one to give up on a challenge - especially one which social media had been informed about - I went on my mission to find a trainer I could rely on to help me, support me and guide me through my body sculpting journey.

Introducing Tony Slingo. He's a no nonsense, straight to the point trainer who has set out my exercise programme with clear precision. I'm to lift heavy weights, work on different parts of my body each day, with some cardio and a bit of yoga thrown in to keep my muscles supple.

Food wise, going clean is the way forward. At no cost am I to touch processed foods, wheat, gluten or alcohol.

In fact I'm told that 80% of achieving my goal will be down to my food so getting this right will be over half the battle. And so with the right trainer on hand who will support me mostly remotely - as I haven't got the financial backing like a celeb for him to be on my beck and call all day - I'm on my way to achieving my body sculpting body with the goal of reaching12% body fat.

My starting fat percentage was 25 so that's just over half of the body fat to lose. I want to do it in the fastest yet safest possible time and I will be blogging my trials and tribulations of achieving my goal as I set about my journey.

It's one of the biggest challenges I'm about to encounter and I'm sure it's going to be a very interesting one and one that I will be proud to show off. Bring it on!
