Maybe we should ask Samuel L Jackson to be president of the new world? If not him... who do you reckon should lead us from the panic land to the promised land?

Due to being ridiculously lazy I finally got around to throwing a pile of old newspapers from last year out a few weeks ago. Before they made it to the bin on their final journey in the circle of life they sat on my kitchen table while I made a cup of coffee, as I waited for the kettle to boil I idly flicked through the front pages and was interested to see that we only had "days to save the Euro" and "weeks to save the world" as we knew it. They told us that the Greeks were a feckless reckless bunch of chancers who were destroying the modern world as dramatically as they had created the ancient one.

It suddenly struck me that the world as I knew it was still here, I may have tapped my spoon against the mug like I was about to make a speech just to make sure.

Surely the newspapers weren't being hysterical and causing a panic?

It's funny how we didn't hear about the collapsing Euro and related issues during the Olympics, did the disaster go on holiday? The same goes for Spain, Portugal and Italy, weren't they going to end the world like some dodge-pot evil villain in a James Bond film a while back? We've not heard about them for a few months now, their poor populations are skint, without jobs or with jobs, battling on and no doubt wondering what they've done to deserve it while we forget about them until the news editors decide to turn their focus onto them and we rehash the same headlines about deadlines for the end of the world all over again.

I'm not saying there aren't problems, there obviously are when poor people have to sell their belongings for medicines and food, what I am asking is how many of those problems are generated by the media and "experts" in the markets?

I have an image of them screaming "We're all going to die!" at each other in a never ending escalation in hysteria. Each frantically pressing the panic button because they saw the other press theirs.

Instead of taking loans, wouldn't it be better if Merkel, Cameron and the new French one we all thought was going to change things but actually hasn't, went to the City of London, gathered everyone around them, including the news editors, stood up and shouted,

"Just chill the f**k out!"

Maybe we should ask Samuel L Jackson to be president of the new world? If not him... who do you reckon should lead us from the panic land to the promised land?
