INSPIRATION: It's never just one reference with Marc Jacobs. Last night, his collection touched on 70s glam, Yves Saint Laurent circa the Morocco era, Halston's brand of Studio 54 decadence with a modern twist, and colourful Missoni knits.

ACCESSORIES: Played a huge role in tonight's show. They included colourful wide-brim floppy sunhats, giant oversize glasses, stacked gold sequin heels, patent handheld clutches, and obi belts.
WHO WAS THERE: Alexa Chung was the only celeb who made the 8 pm cutoff. Courtney Love was rumoured to attend, but alas...
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Marc Jacobs is nothing if not precise. As soon as the clock struck 8, Vivaldi's Summer from the Four Season's blared, and anyone left on the runway scampered for his or her seat. Out of a giant gold structure in centre stage marched an army of disco divas. Fortunately, StyleList's crack beauty team had tipped us off to the show's 70s feel, and the final product was everything one could hope for.
There was a gypsy-era YSL reference in the off-the-shoulder blouses with puffy sleeves and flouncy skirts and a touch of Bianca Jagger in the white suits adorned with silver and gold sequins, and copper lamé blazers with matching hot pants. Colors were bright, and many ensembles were adorned with matching fabric orchids - a refreshing tropical breeze needed in this season of stark white minimalism.
