A new book from Louis Vuitton celebrates the glamour of travel and harks back to an era before budget airlines, when trunks were the status symbol of the globe-trotting elite.

The soon to be released new book from Louis Vuitton, Louis Vuitton: 100 Legendary Trunks features more than 800 photographs documenting some of the fashion house's most iconic and often custom-made pieces.

The tome, which is prefaced by Patrick-Louis Vuitton, takes the luxury luggage brand's 1921 advertising slogan "show me your luggage and I'll tell you who you are" as it's starting point, and celebrates the personal stories that accompany each piece.

There is also exhibition at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, bringing together for the first time a massive collection of the iconic trunks, which runs until 27 February 2011.

It's certainly made us think twice about the state of our suitcases when we check in at the airport...

Louis Vuitton: 100 Legendary Trunks launches on November 1 and is available exclusively from Louis Vuitton stores and the Louis Vuitton website.
