DESIGNER: Armani Privé

THE INSPIRATION: Couture goes space age. Think flying-saucer hats, metallic sheens and galaxies of embellished crystals.

TOP LOOKS: Sculpted gowns which sparkled with crystals, the 'craters' cut into dresses, the black and green wet-sheen suit with an otherworldy feel.

WHO WAS THERE: Jodie Foster, Sophia Loren, Amber Le Bon, Poppy Delevigne, Olivia Wilde and Pedro Almodovar

WHAT WE THOUGHT: The return of Pierre Cardin? The high-octane fabrics and embellishment made for plenty of red carpet-ready frocks, and we loved the modernist gowns with a cutaway to reveal the waist in front. Our only question? Can mere mortals pull off these clothes or do you need to have an out-of-this-world physique to do it?
