The mood: In a return to the decade of disco, the spring/summer 2011 collections saw vibrant colour, flared trousers and flamboyant fringing hit the catwalk. Both denim and suede were dominant this season, while bold, ethnic prints also made reference to the glamorous era.
The must haves: Wide leg trousers and platform heels. Derek Lam kept the look chic and simple by pairing flared jeans with crisp white shirts and denim t-shirts, while the 70s feel was exaggerated at Louis Vuitton with retro prints in rich colour ways.

Flamboyant fringing overflowed the catwalk at Roberto Cavalii's show. Dresses were long and trousers were wide, in true 70s style.
Etro paid homage to the 70s with tribal motifs in mustard, orange and black on gypsy dresses, suede skirts and flares.
Flares and kaftans in swiling prints brought a touch of 70s glamour to the Topshop collection. The look was completed with tassled wedges and big, crimped hair.
The look was relaxed but the inspiration hailed back to the 70s at Derek Lam's show. Denim on denim, playsuits and a suede pencil skirt emphasised the retro feel.
With a colour palette of caramel, tan and mustard, there was a clear yearning for the 70s throughout Ferragamo's collection. Crotchet jersey dresses, maxi skirts and high-waisted trouser suits all called to the glamorous era.
In a tribute to the brand's hertiage, Stefano Pilati's collection was super sleek and sophisticated. The tailored jumpsuit was just one of the stand-out pieces from the collection.
Suede fringing on wasitcoats, trousers and acessorises added a retro dimension to clean white petticoats and maxi dresses at Ralph Lauren's show.
