INSPIRATION: "I've grown as a professional and as a woman. I feel like I have permission to be free and I want to give women more freedom." The collection focuses on a neat, precise shoulder.

TOP LOOKS: Simple long coat with stand-up collar; column of a dress with the ruffle on the neck; cocoon dresses. We're smitten...

ACCESSORIES: The models wore black swim-caplike hats, carried Victoria Beckham bags in new shapes like a duffel, a shopper tote and an accordion envelope clutch, and wore Christian Louboutin boots (did she and Brian Atwood break up?).

WHO WAS THERE: Only the most serious of the fashion retailers and press - this is a business, not a vanity project.

WHAT WE THOUGHT: This is quickly becoming one of our favourite fashion presentations. Held at a townhouse on New York's Upper East Side, sitting, listening to Posh speak about her gorgeous dresses is a really civilized way to start the day.

The thing about this collection is that everything is completely buttoned up. The dresses and coats were flawless, her discussing what went into making each piece was entertaining and informative, the music (selections from fashion-flock faves "The Eyes of Laura Mars" and "Valley of the Dolls") was inspired.

Even her self-deprecation was humorous. "I designed this collection before I found out I was pregnant and this is the only dress I can wear from this season," she said of the oversized cashmere jumper dress she was sporting.

HOT FRONT ROW GOSSIP: We'd already heard the rumour that VB would be sending some dresses to a certain future princess, but the designer confirmed it at her show. According to the Telegraph, Beckham said of Middleton: "Apparently she likes my clothes and has asked to see a selection. It will be from my current spring/summer collection."

As for her thoughts on Prince William's fiancee? "It's tremendously exciting and I would be honoured if she were to wear my designs. I admire her tremendously. She's a beautiful young girl, and she wears clothes beautifully," Beckham told the paper. Beckham already has a healthy roster of celebrity fashion fans, from Oprah to Dannii Minogue, but we'd love to see a royal wearing one of her designs (and we're guessing they're not really the Queen's style).
