Catwalk Review: Donna Karan A/W 2011/12

Imax Tree

DESIGNER: Donna Karan

INSPIRATION: "Pearls of wisdom," according to the show notes, which was translated quite literally - every model's look was accessorised with a pearl necklace.

WHO WAS THERE: Marisa Berenson and every top editor imaginable.

TOP LOOKS: Skintight jersey dresses; prim wool bouclé pencil skirts with matching cashmere sweaters and blazers; spangled gowns at the close of the show.

ACCESSORIES: Gorgeous tall shoes in neutral shades.

WHAT WE THOUGHT: Karan has been in this business for over 25 years and certainly knows what appeals to her customers. She used her trademark jersey in slinky day dresses and even featured the fabric in the corseted gown that Karlie Kloss wore to close the show. Models had sweeping ballerina buns on their heads and wore smart classics such as cashmere-wool trench coats, flared trousers and skirt suits - all in predominantly muted tones of grey and peach. This collection wasn't revolutionary, it certainly was beautiful in a monastic way sure to hit home with her loyal clientele.
